FAQ

If something here doesn't quite answer your question, that's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for.

Where are sessions done?

It depends on the service. Tutoring can be online via Google Meet or in person at the child's home. Behaviour consultations and ongoing behaviour support are always delivered at the family's home. We get far better results meeting children in the environment where they actually live and learn than in a clinical office.

How long are sessions usually?

Tutoring sessions and behaviour support sessions are 45 minutes. Behaviour consultations run 60 minutes because they typically involve more conversation with the parents.

The initial consultation is a free 15-minute video or phone call — just enough time to talk about your child, what you're looking for, and whether Tadpole Services is the right fit.

Do you offer sliding scale?

Yes — a limited number of sliding-scale spots are available for families with demonstrated financial need. These are assessed individually rather than advertised at a fixed rate.

If a sliding-scale arrangement would make this possible for your family, please mention it on the booking form or in your initial email. We'll talk it through together.

What does a tutoring session look like?

A 45-minute session of focused 1-on-1 work. We work on math, reading, or writing depending on your child's needs.

Each session has a clear, predictable structure: warm-up, explicit teaching of new material, guided practice, independent practice, and a short closing. The structure itself is part of what makes it work: children settle in faster when they know what's coming next.

After each session, you'll know what we worked on, what got better, and where we're heading next.

What does a behaviour consultation look like?

A 60-minute conversation at your home, with parents present and optionally the child as well. We talk about targeted behaviour, observe context where it's appropriate, and develop a clear plan for next steps.

The conversation itself gives parents what they need to move forward. Other times it points toward a series of ongoing behaviour support sessions with the child.

What does a behaviour support session look like?

A 45-minute session at your home, working directly with the child in the environment where their challenges actually show up. Sessions are recurring and progress-tracked — typically weekly or every two weeks, depending on what your family needs.

We use applied behavioural techniques, but the work is gentle and relationship-based.

What ages do you work with?

Roughly ages 4 to 11. Each service has a slightly different age range:

  • Tutoring: Kindergarten through Grade 5
  • School readiness: JK through Grade 2
  • Language skills: Ages 4 to 7
  • Behaviour consultation and support: The same age range, but with more flexibility. Behaviour work is responsive to the child's specific situation rather than tightly age-bound.

Didn't see your question?

Some questions need a conversation, not an FAQ entry. The free 15-minute call is for exactly this.
